Master class and string course at one of Europes foremost programmes
Application deadline: 9 October. Many former pupils and students from Barratt Due musikkinstitutt (BD) in Oslo are today soloists, concertmasters, section leaders and sought-after musicians, including
- Eivind Ringstad Holtsmark (section leader London Symphony Orchestra)
- Guro Kleven Hagen (concertmaster Norske Opera)
- Henning Kraggerud, soloist
- Jakob Dingstad (section leader Finska Radios Symfoniorkester)
- Johan Dalene, soloist
- Terje Skomedal (section leader Göteborgs Symfoniker)
- Vilde Frang, soloist
- and many more
Thanks to the collaboration between BD, Polstjärnepriset, Ung Filharmoni and YOMA, young string musicians of the Nordic countries (approx. 14-20 years) will now have the chance to learn from BD’s leaders, teachers and professors on site in Oslo. Some participants that have a long way to travel, e.g. from Iceland and Finland, can participate online.
The course offers YOMA/Polstjärnepriset’s participants two individual lessons/master classes, ensemble playing and master classes in bow technique (The magic bow with Stephan Barratt-Due) and intonation (Alf Richard Kraggerud). The offer of two individual lessons does not apply to BD’s regular students. The course is also perfect for those preparing for competitions, entrance exams or auditions. String musicians from the Polstjärnepriset Symphony Orchestra and candidates for Ung Filharmoni also receive special section rehearsals.
Practical info, deadline and application
The course is free of charge. We offer a limited number of accommodation packages at the cultural centre Voksenåsen: two nights in a dormitory with breakfast, including a lunch package on Saturday and Sunday and dinner on 7 December for 1845 NOK. Dinner on Friday is organised by yourself. We have rolling admissions. As soon as you are admitted, you will receive our booking link to the package and can secure your accommodation at these prices.
The course will be held at BD, Lyder Sagens gate 2 and will run from 6-8 December, but will officially start on Saturday at 10am and end at 3pm on Sunday. For many participants that travel far, arrival will need to take place on Friday. For those who can be on site on Friday, lessons are offered already then.
The application is now closed. No later than 9 October, you need to send your solo repertoire as an attached pdf (not a link) by e-mail to yoma@yomacenter.se. If you are not already known to BD, Polstjärnepriset, YOMA or Ung Filharmoni, you need to send a link to a recording to yoma@yomacenter.se. The recording must be uploaded to YouTube or Vimeo and accessible without a login.
