Kurs

Course and master class with YOMA, Polstjärnepriset Symphony Orchestra and KMH

For young musicians (10-19 years old) from all over the country and the other Nordic countries and for instrumental teachers

The course is given at and together with KMH (Kungliga Musikhögskolan) in Stockholm and welcomes those who play wind or string instruments, or percussion. You choose whether you apply for the course for one or two days (two days subject to availability, long-distance participants are prioritised for the 2-day course). The course gives you a good impression of KMH, YOMA and the Polstjärnepriset Symphony Orchestra and can be a gateway to the programmes and the orchestra. If you are an instrumental teacher, you are welcome to accompany your own or other students.

Three levels
The course is given at three levels: level 1 (for anyone who has been playing for a few years), level 2 (for those who send or have previously sent us a recording and been approved) and level 3 (master class level and YOMA talents). We hold admission tests for the Talent Programme throughout the year, also at KMH.

Level 1
Level 1 offers orchestral playing, section rehearsals and group lessons. Subject to availability, you can have your own individual lesson. You will also be able to listen to other lessons and concerts. You can bring friends from your school and your orchestra, or even the whole orchestra.

We play Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition in different orchestral arrangements for string orchestra, wind ensemble and symphony orchestra. You play orchestral parts that perfectly match your level. You get access to the parts in advance and can practise them with your teachers, your orchestra and online to videos.

During the course, you will be coached by the course teachers, KMH students and members of the Polstjärnepriset Symphony Orchestra, one of the leading orchestras for young musicians in the Nordic region. We will also make music together with levels 2 and 3 in a large orchestra.

Levels 2 and 3
To be admitted to these levels, you must be known to us already or send a recording/link to a recording that must be approved – see below. The course includes individual and group lessons, master classes and ensemble and orchestral playing together with musicians from the Polstjärnepriset Symphony Orchestra. In the orchestral work, we play arrangements of Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, including Ravel’s arrangements. At level 3 we also play Copland’s Appalachian Spring. Level 3 is also suitable for university students who can participate subject to availability.

Info
The course is free of charge. You pay for and organise your travel, food and accommodation yourself. For overnight stays, we recommend STF’s Hostel Zinkensdamm, from where you can easily get to the Academy of Music by metro. KMH’s restaurant is open for lunch both Saturday and Sunday. If you play oboe, bassoon, French horn, viola or double bass, we will pay for your travel (train) if you live more than 30 kilometres from Stockholm.
The course runs Saturday at 12-19 and Sunday at 9-16. The course ends on Sunday with concerts at KMH at 14-16.

Application
Please send in your application as soon as possible, but no later than 10 March. For level 2 and 3 you need to send a recording or a link to a recording to yoma@yomacenter.se if we do not know you already. Your application for levels 2 and 3 is only valid once you have sent the notes for your individual lessons as an attached pdf file (no link) by email to yoma@yomacenter.se by 10 March.
