YOMAs international Master class and instrumental course at Malmö Academy of Music

Application deadline: 16 March. The course is suitable for young musicians (10-19 years) from all Nordic countries, that play a wind or string instrument, percussion or piano at advanced level.
Instrumental pedagogues and orchestra leaders are welcome to auscultate and participate in seminars.
During the course you will get to know the Malmö Academy of Music, the Young Musicians Academy (YOMA) and the Polstjärnepriset Symphony Orchestra.
What you get
- Lessons/master classes with teachers from the Academy of Music and YOMA
- Joint lessons and rehearsals with students from the Academy of Music and YOMA and Polstjärnepriset’s participants
- Ensemble/chamber music and/or orchestra rehearsals at your level, orchestral repertoire including: Concerto in G minor by Vivaldi, Strum by Montgomery and movements from Symphony No. 2 by Sibelius (sheet music available on our participant info page)
- Practice time with pianist for some master class participants
- Insight into YOMA’s concertmaster and section leader training programme
- Participation in one of the final concerts of the course
- Visits to lessons, master classes and concerts with students from the academy and other course participants
The course is a collaboration between Malmö Academy of Music and the National Centre for Music Talents. The Talent Centre organises YOMA and Polstjärnepriset. Eight of Sweden’s orchestras, including the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, and all music colleges are involved in the Talent Centre.

Saturday 12-19, Sunday 9-16. Closing concerts Sunday 14-16.

You apply by filling in the application form. You can apply to one or both days. If you are not already known to YOMA, you should also send a recording to yoma@yomacenter.se. The deadline for applications is 16 March.

Costs of the course
The course is free of charge, but there are exceptions for some participants who do not live in Sweden. Read more about fees in this overview (last table). You pay and organise your own travel, meals and accomodation. If you play oboe, bassoon, French horn, viola or double bass, we will pay for your travel (train) if you live more than 30 kilometres from Malmö.
