Inez Karlsson and the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra perform at the National Day concert

On the Swedish National Day, 6 June 2023, you can enjoy festive music for young and old. The Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra will take place in Slottsskogen to celebrate the 402nd anniversary of Gothenburg and the 500th anniversary of the unification of Sweden. The concert has free admission!

During the concert you can listen to West Side Story and Gershwin’s Girl Crazy, with Barbara Hannigan as vocal soloist. There will also be fabulous theatre music from Carl Nielsen and Swedish classics from Alfvén and Stenhammar. The winner of Polstjärnepriset 2023, 15-year-old cellist Inez Karlsson, takes on Dvorak’s romantic tribute to the forest: the piece Waldesruhe. Tomas von Brömssen is the presenter of the concert.

15-year-old cellist Inez Karlsson won Polstjärnepriset 2023, the first time the competition was open to all Nordic countries. Inez is a Swedish citizen but lives in Surrey, England and studies with Michal Kaznowski at the Royal College of Music in London. About Polstjärnepriset, she said: “Polstjärnepriset 2023 was a fantastic experience for me. It was incredibly stimulating to meet so many talented musicians from across the Nordic region and I still can’t quite believe I won. It has inspired me to keep trying to develop myself as a cellist.”
