YOMA course January

This YOMA course takes place at the same time as Polstjärnepriset. You can apply for the Polstjärnepriset competition or course using the relevant form on the Polstjärnepriset website.

The YOMA courses in November and January are for those under the age of 14 or who are unable to attend during both Polstjärnepriset periods (a requirement for the Polstjärnepriset competition and course). You can apply for the course as part of your YOMA programme or as a standalone course. Participants who can attend in both November and January may be given priority.

The deadline for applications is 8 November.

The course is offered in person in Vänersborg and welcomes you (aged approx. 10–20) who play wind, percussion or string instruments. The course begins on Friday 2 January at 5 pm and ends on Wednesday 6 January, or as early as Tuesday 5 January, depending on which orchestras you play in.

On-site participation
If you participate on-site, the programme includes individual lessons and often group lessons as well, playing in a chamber music group or ensemble, section rehearsals and participation in one or two orchestras. We will place you in chamber music groups/ensembles and orchestras according to your level. Some ensembles and orchestras are reserved for participants enrolled in our programmes. In the full-scale symphony orchestra, the YOMA Festival Orchestra, we will perform Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 in its entirety. You may have the opportunity to play in Mahler – please indicate in the ‘Additional Information’ section of the form if you are interested.

Apply for the course as a stand-alone course
If you are joining for the first time or only wish to take part in this course, you can apply for it as a stand-alone course. More information on how YOMA is structured can be found here. You apply for the stand-alone course using the same form below.

Instrumental teachers
Teachers are welcome to accompany their own students or to observe the course for their own benefit, online or in person. Please feel free to send us an email so that we can provide you with further information.

Application
You apply for the course via the form for the entire autumn term, even if you only wish to participate in January. You can find the form here. If you have not attended our courses before or if you have not submitted a recording within the last year, you must paste a link to a recording into the application form. A mobile phone recording works well and does not need to include an accompanist.

No later than one month before the course, you must send sheet music for your individual lessons as an attached PDF file (no link) in an email to yoma@yomacenter.se. Write ‘YOMA January + your name’ in the subject line.

Extra lessons, fees and benefits
The number of individual lessons included in the course depends on which YOMA programme you are on or whether you are taking a stand-alone course. If you would like additional individual lessons, you can book them if there is space in the schedule.

In most cases, the courses are free of charge. Check what applies to you in this overview

If you play the oboe, bassoon, French horn, tuba, viola or double bass and live more than 300 km from Vänersborg, you can receive a travel allowance of up to 800 SEK.

Accommodation, meals and payment
If you are attending in person, we can offer bed and breakfast for 400 SEK per night in a shared room or 600 SEK for a single room. As a rule, all participants, except adults, are accommodated in shared rooms. We also offer lunch and dinner for 125 SEK per meal.

If you are accepted to the course, you will receive a link for booking and paying for food and accommodation, as well as any extra lessons and possible course fees.
